Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to take urgent steps towards blocking the humongous amount that is leaking from the treasury of the Lagos state government into the account of an individual.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, George who is the Atona Oodua of Yorubaland said it saddens him when he realises that the amount being pocketed by the said individual can pay the school fees as well as provide meals for millions of poor children in the state.
He said it took public outcry from concerned Lagosians before Governor Sanwo-Olu took bold steps to repeal the outrageous pensions being paid to ex-governors and deputies in the state.
Speaking further, he also warned the state government about the resumption of tolling at the Lekki Toll Gate, saying doing so may lead to chaos as there is so much suffering in the country.
“There is hunger, depression and despondency in the land. That is why in my state of Lagos, when I look around and I see the humongous amount of money leaking out of the Lagos state treasury, it shudders me. I get very angry”.
“That money will pay the school fees of millions of children of poor people and guarantee one meal per day for them in school. However, the money keeps leaking into the pocket of one individual. How can such a man have peace? What does he want to do with all that? Can you imagine what he was taking as pension before the current governor stopped it?”
“The same with this Alpha Beta Company. They must stop it. Also, they must not bring back this Toll Gate. I have seen people, they said they are already repainting and renovating the place”.
“Nigerians will be paying over N200 for fuel price and you will now start paying N400 at Lekki toll gate again. Don’t let him attempt it because he is looking for trouble. This is a democratic governance, not a military administration” he said.
