p style="text-align: justify;">Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has called up Enyimba winger Anayo Iwuala for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho, Saturday PUNCH reports.

p style="text-align: justify;">Iwuala’s invitation was confirmed via the NFF’s Twitter handle on Friday.

p style="text-align: justify;">He replaces Sadiq Umar, who has been denied a chance to join the Eagles by Spanish Segunda club Almeria due to COVID-19 protocols.

p style="text-align: justify;">“Enyimba FC Anayo Iwuala to replace Sadiq Umar for Benin Republic and Lesotho clashes,” the tweet read.

p style="text-align: justify;">Almeria had via a statement on their website on Friday stated that Umar would not join the Eagles for the AFCON qualifiers due to COVID-19 protocols.

p style="text-align: justify;">Moses Simon also pulled out of both games for same reason.

p style="text-align: justify;">“Due to the pandemic crisis that we are experiencing, due to COVID-19 and thoroughly evaluating all the impacts, we believe that the sanitary security or bureaucratic conditions are not met, so that our player Sadiq Umar can present himself to the call-up of the Nigerian national team,” Almeria stated.

p style="text-align: justify;">“Therefore, based on article 3.1b of annex 1 of FIFA RSTP, we have notified the player not to appear at the aforementioned call.”

p style="text-align: justify;">It’s a big blow to Umar, who was expecting to make his international debut, after helping the U-23 team win bronze at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

p style="text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, Leganes coach Asier Garitano has confirmed that Kenneth Omeruo will be released for the games.

p style="text-align: justify;">Garitano made this known at a press conference ahead of his side’s match against CF Fuenlabrada in Butarque on Saturday (today).
