Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, has given reasons he featured Hakim Ziyech in Chelsea’s Champions League round of 16 second-leg 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.
Tuchel said he played Ziyech against Atletico Madrid because the Moroccan international has good experience in the round of 16 during his time at Ajax.
Ziyech and Emerson Palmeri got the goals on the night at Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea progressed on a 3-0 aggregate, having won 1-0 in the first leg.
“He played today because he did it with Ajax, and he came to a semi-final.
“He has good experience in the round of 16. He knows how it feels to arrive in the Knockout round and go through to the last eight.
“The second reason he played is because he deserved it,” Tuchel said at his post-match press conference after the game.
Chelsea’s next game is against Sheffield United in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.
