p style="text-align: justify;">Enyimba goalkeeper, John Noble, says it’s a dream come true after being handed his first national team call-up by Gernot Rohr in his 23-man squad for the Super Eagles’ 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho later this month.

<

p style="text-align: justify;">Noble, one of the most outstanding goalkeepers in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season, was the hero in Enyimba’s CAF Confederation Cup win over Rivers United, saving two spot kicks, before converting the sudden death kick to send the two-time African champions to the competition’s group stage.

<

p style="text-align: justify;">The 27-year-old will battle Maduka Okoye and Francis Uzoho for the number one spot in the squad.

p style="text-align: justify;">“Representing my country has always been my dream and that of every other player. When I saw my name I was extremely happy, it’s a dream come true,” Noble told The PUNCH.

<

p style="text-align: justify;">“This is the best moment of my career. At this point, having been in the league for just six months, and getting a national team invitation is something I can’t explain, but I’m going to ride on this and work harder.

<

p style="text-align: justify;">“This is my first invitation and I can’t really say if I’ll be given the chance to play or not. But when in camp, I’ll do my job, work harder and if given a playing chance, I’ll do my best.”

p style="text-align: justify;">Home-based Eagles shot-stopper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who failed to make the cut for the AFCON qualifiers, advised Noble to stay focused, humble and represent the domestic league well.

<

p style="text-align: justify;">“I’m happy for him. I wish him the best, I’ve told him to be focused, humble and make NPFL players proud in the team. It’s not an easy task playing for the national team but the most important thing for him is to show the can-do spirit” Ezenwa told The PUNCH.

<

p style="text-align: justify;">“In 2015, I was in the national team as a newcomer and the only thing I did was to give my best, remain humble and disciplined. I want him to do well for himself, family and for the country.”
