Kwara United retains NPFL lead

By Olawale Alabi

Kwara United Football Club retained leadership of the current Nigerian Professional Football League 2020/2021 (NPFL) on Sunday, despite a goalless draw against visiting Heartland FC.

In their Matchday 15 match at the Kwara Stadium complex in Ilorin, the hosts failed to break visiting Owerri-based Heartland FC.

The draw at home means they failed to extend their lead at the top of the paper and are now co-leaders with Rangers International FC Enugu.

Kwara United is with 27 points in 15 matches, with a +7 goal difference, one goal ahead of Enugu-based Rangers who beat Adamawa United 1-0.

The Nigeria News Agency (NAN) reports that Adamawa United is still at the bottom of the paper with 10 points from 15 matches.

Enyimba International, who now have three appearances since their Sunday game against MFM FC was postponed, are in third place with 24 points from 12 matches.

They are ahead of Kano Pillars on goal difference, with the Pillars losing 1-4 on Sunday to hosts Abia Warriors.

Nasarawa United, whose game against hosts Sunshine Stars in Akure was abandoned after half-time at 0-0, is in seventh place and can move up to fifth on Monday if he wins.

But Akwa United are meanwhile in fifth place with 23 points with a +7 goal difference, even after not playing on Sunday following the crash last Friday.

They were scheduled to face Jigawa Golden Stars in Kaduna, but were involved in an accident.

Rivers United are in sixth place with 23 points from 14 appearances after a goalless draw with FC IfeanyiUbah, while Dakkada FC who beat Katsina United 1-0 remain in eighth.
