Osun to feed 30,000 PWD, vulnerable citizens

The Osun State Government on Tuesday announced the commencement of the Food Support Scheme, through which it planned to feed 30,000 persons with disabilities and vulnerable citizens.

The plan was unveiled by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ismail Omipidan, after the Osun Executive Council approved the initiative.

A statement by Omipidan obtained in Osogbo explained that the programme would run from March 2021 till November next year, and targeted 30,000 poor and the vulnerable residents in the first instance.

Meanwhile, the State Executive Council has also approved the allocation of farmlands to youths interested in agriculture.

Omipidan recalled that the governor, while presenting this year’s budget before the House of Assembly last year, disclosed that about N1.5bn was set aside to engage the youth in agriculture, culture and tourism, mining and commerce.

“It is in fulfillment of that promise that the state, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, will be clearing 10,000 acres of land. Of this number, 1000 have been successfully cleared,” he added.
