The Ekiti State chapter of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, has described some Governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as enemies of Nigerian workers.
TUC Chairman in the state, Sola Adigun said APC governors sponsored the bill seeking the removal of the national minimum wage from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent list.
Adigun alleged that some APC governors contracted a House of Representative member from Kaduna State, Hon. Garba Muhammed to initiate the wage reclassification bill in the National Assembly.
He spoke at Fajuyi Park in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital during a protest by the organised labour against plans by the House of Representatives to alter the present wage structure.
According to Adigun: “It’s saddening and disheartening that one Garba Datti, who we all know is sponsored by APC governors, the enemies of workers, said the minimum wage should be removed from the exclusive list to the concurrent list.
“Nigeria is a member of ILO with over 170 countries members. And in all countries, we have a national minimum wage.”
Adigun lamented that even the 30,000 minimum wage was not enough to meet the needs of workers.
