Lawmakers mourn, honour Jigawa Rep, seek job for son

The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, suspended all legislative activities to mourn the lawmaker representing Gwaram Federal Constituency in Jigawa State, Yuguda Kila, who died in Abuja on Thursday.

Kila, who died from an undisclosed illness, was aged 70.

He was Chairman of the House Committee on Customs until his death.

Kila was the second member of the House to have died since the 9th National Assembly was inaugurated on June 11, 2019.

At a session on Tuesday that lasted about 20 minutes, the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, expressed deep sadness over Kila’s death, describing the late lawmaker as a dedicated friend and colleague.

Gbajabiamila said, ‘’It is a personal loss to me because Kila has been with me for years; from 2015 till date. I saw him a week before he passed on and we were hoping he would get better and indeed, he was, until that fateful day. In fact, he was recovering from the ICU, but unfortunately, the Almighty Allah did what only He can do. Our condolences are to the family, the people of Jigawa and to us, members of the House of Representatives.”

The Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, Abubakar Fulata, who spoke on behalf of the Jigawa caucus, described the late Kila as an accomplished politician and elder statesman.

Since the 9th National Assembly was inaugurated on June 11, 2019, six members have so far died; four in the House and two in the Senate.
