Former President Goodluck Jonathan has felicitated with ex-Senate President, Pius Anyim, on his 60 birthday, describing him as an outstanding statesman and politician.

Anyim served as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation under the Jonathan presidency.

The former President said, “I enjoyed a cordial working relationship with him, Anyim showed commitment to the success my administration recorded.”

A statement on Sunday said Jonathan spoke at Anyim’s home at Asokoro, Abuja, on Friday, where the birthday celebration held in compliance with the COVID-19 protocol.

According to the statement, the occasion was also used to mark the birthday of Anyim’s wife, Chioma, who added another year a day earlier.

A former governor of Edo State, Lucky Igbinedion, and a former governor of Sokoto, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, extolled the role of the ex-lawmaker in the socio-economic and political development of the country.

The former governors said Anyim personified the attitude of a detribalised Nigerian, adding that he did not allow his ethno-religious orientation and political leaning to affect his service to the nation when he served as senator and SGF.

“Despite our different ethnic background, Senator Anyim and I have remained family friends till date, not because of anything, but because of his exceptional leadership qualities,” Bafarawa added.
