A legal practitioner and civil rights advocate, Cyril Odiboh, said that the woman-to-woman marriage is still practised in his community, Ubiaja in Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo state, According to the ancient custom which was/still practised in some Igbo communities, a childless woman can marry another woman to bear children for her. The 'wife' gets a man or different men to impregnate her. The children born out these 'encounters' will belong to the woman who married her. Few of his followers claimed that the custom is still practised in their communities. One Gowon Taylor said that it is acceptable in his hometown, Igueben in Edo.
