AKWA Ibom State Government said it would no longer tolerate public school teachers who engage in truancy and display laziness, adding that any of them found wanting in such respect would be dismissed from service.
It said it would henceforth engage in strict monitoring of the performance of teachers to check incidents of laziness and truancy in public schools across the state.
The Chairman of the State Secondary Education Board, Dr Ekaette Okon, who stated this in Uyo, said the board discovered that most secondary school teachers posted to rural areas in the state absconded from their duty posts for one year to engage in farming and trading while government continued to pay them salaries.
“We will put such teachers under query and other disciplinary actions, including stopping their salaries. We will also demote school heads who cannot control teacher and deployed them back to Education Authority for their inactions,” she warned.
