Ekiti 40-year-old woman arraigned for attempting to steal three children

The Ekiti State Police Command on Wednesday arraigned a 40-year old woman, Tawa Kazeem, before an Ado Ekiti Magistrate’s Court for attempting to steal three children.

The defendant was arraigned on two counts.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant on January 29, 2021, along Bank Road, Ado Ekiti, “did attempt to commit an offence to wit; stealing of three schoolchildren.”

Akinwale said, “The offence punishable under Section 509 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”

Counsel for the defendant, Sunday Balogun, urged the court to grant her bail.

The magistrate, Mrs Dolapo Fasuba, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Fasuba, adjourned the case to March 2, 2021, for hearing.

The Joint Security Team comprising police, army and civil defence corps had on Thursday arrested the woman following the alarm raised by residents that a strange woman attempted to abduct three schoolchildren in the area.
