Mother-infant programme to support child devt – Govt

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday said the need to support the development of socially responsible citizens from the womb through infancy, childhood, youth into adulthood was the reason behind the Mother Infant and Child programme.

The Lagos State Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Aderemi Adebowale, according to a statement on Wednesday, stated this at the sensitisation on MICH Research Pilot phase at the Christ Cathedral Church Primary School, Marina, Lagos.

Adebowale, who noted that the programme was set up by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to enable pregnant women to eat well during pregnancy for the overall wellbeing of the child, said food packs containing the right nutrients were distributed under the programme to help the baby’s development.

According to Adebowale, the programme was targeted at 15,000 participants for the next three years, adding that the second pilot phase started with 1,140 participants comprising a research study with 20 pregnant women in each of the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in the state.

“This phase tagged the research phase included independent case studies and research involving 1,140 pregnant women with follow up and monitoring of diverse medical and social indices which started on December 1, 2020, till the next six months.
