Social media users have laid their minds bare on the revelation that former President Olusegun Obasanjo truncated the ambition of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to become the running mate to Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), who was the APC presidential candidate in 2015.

A former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola who made the revelation said that if not for Obasanjo’s intervention, the APC would likely have gone ahead with the Muslim-Muslim ticket and the party could have found it difficult to displace the government in power, especially when all reservations that surfaced over the proposed Muslim-Muslim ticket had been dismissed.

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode who reacted to Oyinlola’s statement, said on Twitter, “OBJ spoke against it but I was the first. I blew the whistle before anyone else. OBJ spoke only AFTER I wrote my essay warning about the dangers of a Muslim Muslim ticket.”

One @suleman_lawal said, “It is time we moved pass this kind of myth. An average Nigerian does not care if it is Christian/Christian or Muslim/Muslim ticket. They proved it by voting Late Chief Abiola and Kingibe, the Muslim/Muslim ticket. This kind of divisive myths must come to an end.”

Moving to Facebook, one Ilado Abisoye said, “It was a fatherly advise to tinubu and pmb that Muslim Muslim ticket might not work considering what happened to abiola case and tinubu took the advice with utmost faith.”

Tope Ajayi said, “How come obasanjo is known more for the littany of what he blocks and not what he facilitated? No wonder there isn’t any record of leaders he mentored but people he used, dumped and destroyed.”

Hassan Abiodun said, “Tinubu is a reasonable man, he could have ignored those who opposed to Muslim/Muslim ticket and still stick with his ambition, but he sacrificed his ambition for the party. That is what others cannot do, and it was not the first time he has done so. That is why is the finest politician in the country now, whether the wailers like it or not.”

Joseph Kahinde Nana said, “It is wrong for some one to say OBJ truncated Tinubu’s ambition. APC’s decision then could have made them to lose the election. OBJ was already against Jonathan. So he pointed out the mistake APC was about to make that Muslim/ Muslim ticket will not work. That how Tinubu was dropped.”
