The Yoruba monarch made this known when executive members of YSFON from the South West region paid him a courtesy visit in his palace recently.
He also presented a giant trophy for the football competition.
The motive, according to Oba Ogunwusi, is to encourage grassroots football development in the country and support YSFON in its drive at discovering football talents, especially within the South West.
“I commend your body (YSFON) for helping in discovering young lads that have been doing the country proud in football. Your efforts are quite commendable and that is why I’m going to support your efforts,” the monarch said.
“I believe together we can assist our youths through football and produce more of these stars right from the grassroots.
“I have already established a football academy in Ile-Ife through the annual Ojaja Principal’s Cup for secondary schools in Osun.”
Vice President, YSFON, South West, Rafiu Alabi, who led other members to the Ooni’s palace, thanked the monarch for his huge support and love for football, saying the YSFON Oodua Unity tourney would be played in the U-17 boys and U-18 girls categories.
