The incident happened around 3am on Thursday.
Nweke, a hunter, was reported to have visited a herbalist in the area recently, complaining of poor hunting.
“He told us a native doctor he consulted recently assured him of good prospects in his hunting.
“We didn’t expect this to happen to him and his family. It’s quite unfortunate and painful,” a source stated.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.
He said, “On Thursday, there was a report from the vigilante chairman in Amunike, in the Awka North LGA of Anambra State that on the same date at about 3am, a hunter, Uchechukwu Nweke, 65, of same address, allegedly shot his wife, Patricia Nweke, 55, with a single-barrelled gun and also burnt his house along with his son named Obinna Nweke, 29, in circumstances yet to be ascertained. The suspect equally shot himself using the same gun.”
